Snow likely with storm warning issued for North Oregon Coast range, Willapa Hills
The National Weather Service in Portland has announced that a winter storm watch for snow is in effect from Tuesday morning through Tuesday afternoon for the North and Central Oregon Coast Range, Willapa Hills and the Cascade foothills in South Washington and north and central Oregon.

A storm system moving inland Tuesday is expected to bring snow to some of the lower elevations of mountains and hills of Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington. Snow is expected down to 500 to

1,000 feet, with accumulations of up to six inches above 1,000 feet. Snow levels in the Central Oregon Cascade foothills and Coast Range are expected to rise to 1,500 feet in the afternoon.

A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel.

A high wind watch is also in effect for Tuesday morning through Tuesday afternoon for the North and Central Oregon Coast, including the cities of Astoria, Cannon Beach and Tillamook.

Low pressure developing near the Aleutian Islands is expected to strengthen over the Gulf of Alaska Monday then approach the Oregon Coast Monday night and Tuesday. Winds will increase quickly Monday night as an associated frontal system approaches the Coast. Sustained south winds may reach 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph as the front moves onshore Tuesday, especially near the beaches

and headlands.

A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or stronger may occur.
